TCC to become an ECF Member

       TCC to become and ECF Member             

      The European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF)unites cyclist’ associations not only in Europe but also from across the globe, giving them a voice on the international level. Its aim is to get more people cycling more often by influencing policy in favour of cycling.ECF has two categories of membership:ECF Full membership is open to European groups of cycle users, while ECF Associate membership is open to European groups who do not meet the criteria for full membership but who support the aims of the ECF, and cycling user organizations from outside Europe or other bodies with an interest in cycling.

      Currently, ECF has 70 members of which 68 spread across 40 countries and two are organizations at European regional level.  Only three membersare outside of Europe, that are Velo Quebec in Canada, and Alliance for Biking and Walking andOne Street in the U.S.A.   ECF thus has no member at all in South America, Asia, Africa, Australia and Oceania.

ECF’s 25th Anniversary Event

ECF delegations met the Prime Minister of Malta to advocate cycling policy.

Dr. Bernhard Ensink, ECF Secretary General, told Bangkok audience in October 2012 about ECF’s experiences advocating cycling in Europe.

       Thailand Cycling Club (TCC) had applied to be a member of ECF since last year and was primarily screened to qualify as an Associate Member. ECF Secretariat also asked TCC to supply information about our background, objectives, activities and outcomes for its Governing Board to consider in its meeting on June 9, 2013.  If approved, TCC would formally become an ECF Member, overtaking Japan, China, India and Vietnam where cycling is more popular than in Thailand as ECF’s first member in Asia.
