The Future of Walking and Cycling in Bangkok

Today (February 16, 2016), Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) convened a seminar, “Twenty-Year Framework for Development of Bangkok”.  Development of walking and cycling systems was clearly remarked as a direction that BMA needs to consider and put in place for daily transportation of people in Bangkok.  This is an issue that until now had never been seriously contemplated by the BMA before.

It is predicted that people in Bangkok would increasingly use less private cars and turn to use public transport – the electric train, bus and waterbus, more.  These public transport systems unavoidably  need non-motorised transport, walking and cycling, as their feeder system.

Bangkokians now have a hope.  Thailand Cycling Club is pleased that what we have been campaigning for and advocated is going to become a reality.
